We’re keeping the 4 Day Week! Here’s our thoughts…
Over the last couple of weeks, the success of the recent 4-day week trial has made headlines across the UK, and we here at TBL had the privilege to take part. From the trial, we gained first-hand experience of the benefits of a four-day work week, much to the envy of our friends and families.
With the success of the pilot being published by every major outlet across the UK, we thought it’d be a great time to talk about our experiences and provide some of our stats to see how having a 4-day week affected our performance.
In general, participants of this study saw a 35% increase in revenue. Sick days declined by 65%, and levels of stress and burnout decreased significantly, with employees’ physical and mental health improving. Additionally, 62% of participants found balancing their work with their social lives easier. Employee happiness was further reflected in a 57% decrease in employees leaving companies participating in the 4-day week trial.
For us here at TBL, the 4-day week has been a great opportunity to spend more time with friends and family, volunteer in the local community or even just relax at home. However, initially, some of us weren’t sold on the practicality of working a 4-day week. Adam, our head of operations, had this to say:
“I must admit, I was sceptical at first. Being in a customer-facing role, I was overthinking it all. How will I fit in all my meetings? Where will I find time to do other work? How will people react knowing they can’t contact me one day a week? Now it’s a part of business as usual – and I’m here for it!”
After polling our customers, none of them were concerned about us moving to a 4-day week, and 97% of them felt that there was no deterioration in service after switching over, completely nullifying Adam’s previous concerns. 83% of our customers even thought more positively of us after adopting a 4-day week, which is an added bonus!
Unsurprisingly, after the completion of the study, 92% of companies are continuing with the 4-day week, and after experiencing the numerous benefits of a 4-day week first-hand, we’re happy to say we’re one of them.
